Be There In A Jiffy

Be there in a Jiffy was an experimental and collaborative writing and performance project run in collaboration with Apples & Snakes in September 2008.

The primary aim was to give a group of unconnected writers
in the Cumbria and Lancashire areas a chance to
create new material, play and perform it.

Participants received a Be there in a Jiffy bag in August.
It will contain an inspiring spark of an idea and another
participant's name to send their ideas on to at a later stage.

Workshop sessions were set up in venues in Cumbria and Lancashire at
which paarticipants were encouraged to collaborate with
other writers and share their material.

The workshops will be led by Rachel Mars with Ann Wilson assisting.

Rachel Mars had been working in Spoken Word for six years, she had recently directed Malika Booker's 'Unplanned', and was now running the Incubate artist development project. She also writes and performs, mostly about family, Dustin Hoffman and loss.  Incubate is a spoken word artist development programme.

It aims to explode the practice of spoken word artists through collaboration, experimentation and cross artform play. It is run by Apples & Snakes with BAC, Birmingham REP and Contact.

The workshops were held on:

  • Sept 17    Bolton Octogan
  • Sept 17    Lancaster, The Yorkshire House
  • Sept 18    Lancaster, The Gregson Centre
  • Sept 18    Carlisle Library
  • Sept 19    Ulverston, Lanternhouse

A performance of excerpts of 'Be there in a Jiffy' were premiered at Spotlight
@ The Yorkshire House, Lancaster on FRIDAY 19 SEPTEMBER 2008.
