The Line-Up

Yvonne Johnson - Poetry

I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky in the United States. I am studying cyber security at Lancaster University as a Fulbright Scholar. I've wanted to be a writer ever since writing my first short story in elementary school. I'm not published yet (outside of self-published chapbooks), but I hope to be soon.

Vanessa Wood - Poetry

I studied Fine Art and Creative Writing at the university of Cumbria. I have three children and a partner. I write about life and emotion. I'm inspired by the artist, jean Michel Basquiat, Kate Tempest and Maya Angelou.

 Carole Wood - Poetry

Carole discovered a love of words at a very young age and has written poetry and prose most of her life. Now retired she is working on a memoir. Her mantra is that humour and pathos are close bedfellows.

Simon Baker - Prose

Simon has been a regular at Spotlight since Noah built the ark. He first appeared at the Open Mic in 2002 and eventually became a regular compere. Tonight he'll be making a rare appearance as a performing writer. 'I will have prose about something very close to my heart and very close to the stage I'm standing on. The audience reaction I am hoping for is a closed mouth smile accompanied by a barely perceptible nod of the head and a tiny, noise of recognition from the back of the throat. Fingers crossed...'

Rich Davenport

Rich has played in bands since the age of 14 and is currently vocalist/guitarist with Black Sheets Of Rain. He has also gigged extensively as a stand up comedian and poet and was twice winner of Spotlight's Open Mic Slam -n 2013/14. He'll be playing a solo music spot at Spotlight which he says will be 'mainly serious songs with one daft one at the end'.

Martin Chitty

Undoubtedly one of the best songwiters ever to perform at Spotlight, Martin last appeared on the bill at The Yorkshire House in September 2007 when he was a student. Work and life have taken him away from Lancaster but he is now making a long awaited return! A brilliant lyricist, singer and musician this is a gig not to be missed!

Compere: Tony Povah
